Low impedances may come in handy.
On-chip caps have been around for ages. I don't worry much about
bypassing uPs or FPGAs on multilayer boards. The on-chip caps and the
PCB planes handle the fast stuff, and just scatter a few 0603 caps
kinda nearby for the slow stuff.
